Consul Wang Jianqun Attended the Project Launch of Chinese Corner In Batac City Library

At the invitation of the Batac City Library, Consul and Head of Post Wang Jianqun attended the Project Launch of the Chinese Corner in the Library on November 28th, 2016. The Chinese Corner is a joint project launched by the Batac City Library and the National Library of the Philippines. Batac City Mayor Mr. Albert Chua, officials with the City Bureau of Education and the National Library as well as representatives of school teachers attended the ceremony.

On behalf of the Chinese Consulate in Laoag, Consul Wang donated some Chinese books and magazines to the new Chinese Corner. In her speech, she congratulated the launch as a significant event as the New Year was drawing near which would open a new chapter in the cultural exchanges at the local levels between China and the Philippines. She quoted several ancient Chinese sayings such as "To read ten thousand books is like travelling ten thousand miles" to illustrate the importance of reading. Consul Wang hoped and believed that the launch of the Chinese Corner in the Library would generate the interest of the local people to learn the Chinese language. She also hoped and believed that the Chinese Corner would serve as a window of cultural exchanges and mutual understanding as well as a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Mayor Albert said that the project launch of the Chinese Corner was a symbol of friendship from the Batac people towards China. Not long ago, he had the honor to visit China. During the visit, he not only saw the beautiful landscape of China, but also got to know the profound Chinese culture. He noted that although he had Chinese blood, it was a pity he did not learn the Chinese language when he was young. He hoped that children in Batac City would not have this kind of pities. The City government and himself would fully support the local students to learn the Chinese language and work together with the Chinese Consulate in Laoag to further promote cultural exchanges.
