Wang Yi Meets with Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Toshihiro Nikai

On November 25, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Toshihiro Nikai in Tokyo.

Wang Yi said that with the joint efforts of the two sides, China-Japan relations have gotten back on track and maintained positive momentum. Since the establishment of the new Japanese administration, the two countries have made positive interactions with each other. Both sides should carry forward the friendship of mutual support and assistance during the fight against COVID-19, follow through the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and push forward China-Japan relations under the new circumstances.

Wang Yi said that China is accelerating the establishment of a new development paradigm and further expanding its domestic demand, which will bring new opportunities of development to all countries including Japan. After the pandemic is leveling off, both countries need to gradually expand bilateral personnel exchanges, carry out two-way communication such as school trips for young students, and simultaneously improve the two countries' public opinions of each other. We need to strengthen all-round pragmatic cooperation and resolve our concerns during the process. We need to enhance cooperation on regional integration, promote early enforcement of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and accelerate negotiations on the China-Japan-South Korea Free Trade Area on this basis.

Toshihiro Nikai said the Japanese people were encouraged by the fact that soon after his taking office, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga spoke with President Xi Jinping on the phone. Japan welcomes the announcement of launching "fast track" for the necessary flow of personnel between the two countries, and hopes both sides will further enhance people-to-people exchanges. The Liberal Democratic Party is committed to advancing steady progress of the bilateral relations, and is ready to give play to the communication mechanism of the two ruling parties, and deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, tourism, youth and women.
