|Wang Yi Meets with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato|
On November 25, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato in Tokyo.
Wang Yi said that with the concerted efforts from both sides, China-Japan relations have gotten back on track. We need to cherish the sound situation which has not come easily. President Xi Jinping had a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga not long ago. Both sides agreed to play a strategic guiding role to realize smooth transition of China-Japan relations and bring about new development prospects. Both sides need to strengthen communication and coordination against all odds and interruptions, in order to push forward the bilateral relations on the right track, and to inject positive energy to the current regional and international environment filled with uncertainty. Both sides need to further promote pragmatic cooperation, enhance people-to-people exchanges, push forward Olympic cooperation and improve mutual understanding and friendship.
Katsunobu Kato said that Yoshihide Suga's administration attaches great importance to China-Japan relations and believes that as major responsible countries, Japan and China should build stable bilateral relations and jointly make positive contributions to the region and the whole world. Strengthening pragmatic cooperation between Japan and China is not only conducive to the development of both countries, but also to regional and international peace and prosperity. Japan hopes to cooperate with China in more fields, actively expand personnel exchanges and host the Olympic Games in both countries successfully. Japan stands ready to work with China to properly handle the differences and issues between the two countries and promote a healthy bilateral relationship.
