Wang Yi: We Should Deal with Traditional and Non-traditional Security Threats in a Coordinated Manner

On September 24, 2020, while attending the United Nations (UN) Security Council Virtual Summit in Beijing, Special Representative of President Xi Jinping, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said, in the 21st Century, mankind has undergone global risk challenges again and again, from the September 11 incident to the international economic and financial crisis, and then to the COVID-19 pandemic. We should deal with traditional and non-traditional security threats in a coordinated manner, and put public health and climate change at a more important position on the international agendas. Non-traditional security threats involve all aspects and interact with each other. For this reason, we need to make overall plans, implement comprehensive policies, and address both the symptoms and the root causes. The UN Security Council should abide by the requirements of the UN Charter and play a greater role.
