Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov of Kyrgyzstan


On September 13, 2020 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov of Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek.

Wang Yi expressed, China and Kyrgyzstan are friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners. Thanks to the care and support of President Xi Jinping and President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, China-Kyrgyzstan relations have achieved substantial progress. Our traditional friendship featuring mutual support and mutual aid has withstood the test of the COVID-19 pandemic and has been developing further in the joint fight against COVID-19, adding new connotations to the comprehensive strategic partnership of our two countries.

Wang Yi said, my visit is to further deepen our cooperation in the fight against COVID-19. China will continue to stand side by side with the Kyrgyz people until the pandemic is completely defeated. As China leads the world in the research and development of the COVID-19 vaccine, we will make it a global public good after it has been successfully developed. We will also give priority to the needs of Kyrgyzstan, work with the Kyrgyz side on vaccine cooperation and explore cooperation on traditional Chinese medicine research and development for the benefit of the Kyrgyz people.

Wang Yi said, my visit is to further consolidate our mutual support. China and Kyrgyzstan are close neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. We are a community of shared interests and security. China will firmly support Kyrgyzstan's development path that fits its national conditions and is supported by its people, staunchly support Kyrgyzstan in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence, national dignity and legitimate rights and interests, and resolutely oppose any external interference in Kyrgyzstan's internal affairs. The Chinese side appreciates the Kyrgyz side for the firm support on issues concerning China's core interests. The two sides should understand and trust each other, and jointly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests.

Wang said, my visit is to open win-win cooperation in the post-pandemic era. The two sides should make up for the lost time due to the pandemic by speeding up bilateral cooperation in all fields. The Torugart checkpoint between the two countries has reopened to facilitate the flow of goods. Personnel of Chinese enterprises have been returning to Kyrgyzstan to restart major cooperative projects. Projects concerning people's livelihood, such as the alternative North-South highway, the second phase of the renovation of the road network in Bishkek, and irrigation system upgrade project, have been resumed and accelerated. The Chinese side is ready to import more high-quality agricultural products that are marketable in China from Kyrgyzstan and welcomes the Kyrgyz side's participation in the third China International Import Expo.

Chingiz Aidarbekov said, the Kyrgyz side speaks highly of the development of bilateral relations, and the pandemic has not slowed down the pace of bilateral cooperation. The leaders of the two countries have maintained close communication and reached important consensus. The Kyrgyz side is grateful for the Chinese side's valuable assistance in fighting the pandemic and hopes that the Chinese side will continue to support Kyrgyzstan in areas including the research and development of vaccines and traditional Chinese medicine. The Kyrgyz side will remain committed to the policy of developing friendship with China, and will, as always, support the One China policy, the development path chosen by the Chinese people, and China's principled position on issues related to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Xinjiang. Kyrgyzstan firmly opposes any external interference in China's internal affairs. The Kyrgyz side is ready to fully participate in the Belt and Road Initiative, push forward the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in trade, investment, education, youth, and other fields, and inject new impetus into the comprehensive strategic partnership between Kyrgyzstan and China. China has successfully commenced the foreign ministers' meeting mechanism with five central Asian countries, which will serve as a new platform and open up broader prospect for the cooperation between central Asian countries and China.

After the talks, the two foreign ministers jointly met the press and witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.
