|State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Holds Talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Viet Nam Pham Binh Minh|
On 23 August, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Viet Nam Pham Binh Minh in Dongxing, Guangxi.
Wang described the events he and Pham had attended on that day as “highly meaningful”, including a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the land boundary delimitation and the 10th anniversary of the erection of boundary markers. The two sides drew useful experience and identified future goals for their work on the boundary. The events also included a joint visit to the exhibition hall that records the late Chairman Ho Chi Minh’s friendly engagements with China in the border areas.
Wang said that these history-marking events reminded both sides that the friendship between the two nations, the shared prosperity in the border areas and the vibrancy of the two socialist countries did not come easy. He noted that every generation has a unique responsibility, and that of the current generation is to carry forward the China-Viet Nam friendship forged by the elder generation, take forward the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and further advance the socialist cause of the two countries.
Wang added that China and Viet Nam are among the first to emerge from the global spread of COVID-19, bring domestic outbreaks under control and restore economic and social development. He attributed it to the institutional strengths and close cooperation of the two countries and expressed confidence that China-Viet Nam relations will only grow stronger and more vibrant after COVID-19.
Pham agreed on the great significance of the commemoration. He said that Viet Nam attaches great importance to its relations with China and that growing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership is a top priority in Viet Nam’s foreign policy. He expressed hope that the two sides will resume high-level exchanges as soon as possible and speed up economic and trade cooperation with necessary health and safety measures in place under the new normal of the pandemic.
The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on regional and international issues of shared interest.
